The Next Right Thing

Okay, so now there’s all this pressure to say something Meaningful and Profound.

Sorry, but don’t expect consistency in that department here.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just show up.

Period.

When every fiber of your being is screaming, “NO, NO, NO!”........ you still make an appearance.

And that is enough.

The grace is sufficient.

A beautiful, old, battered friend of mine once told me, “Kim, you just do the next right thing.”

No matter what.

Do the next right thing.

Don’t look down, or you’ll drown.

Do it even if no one’s watching:

THE

NEXT

RIGHT

THING.

That is all.

Really.

Praying that your spirit will be renewed and that you will be surrounded by grace as you stand in the gap and prepare to do whatever "the next right thing" may be.

On the eve of Thanksgiving, I want you to know that I'm thankful for you. You never cease to share a provocative or inspiring thought. I love your mind and your heart. Almost every time I read your blog, I end the reading with tears in my eyes--either from compassion or spiritual blessing. Not only do you have a gift, but more importantly, you are blessing us with your gift.

I'm also thankful to have been able to see the progress in Katherine and the spiritual maturity of Jason. I'm thankful that God has been faithful to them to keep them strong in the face of such adversity.

I'm thankful for all the people who have written messages on CaringBridge or here. Those messages which are meant to encourage all of you have touched me as well--over and over.

Jay (the elder) has taught us that there is no better gift than the gift of prayer. Know that you and your family are in my prayers today and every day.

Hello Kim, I am Jane Sharpe, Kelly's college roommate. Please tell Katherine that my SS class at 1st Pres in Clarksville, TN prays for you and her weekly. You are so strong. I agree with your last blog about "the next right thing". I have a sign on my desk that says "God values the ordinary". We do not always have to be heroic or courageous. Sometimes, just "being" and "serving" is sufficient. God Bless You! Jane

Dear Kim,
I'm one of many people you don't know who care so much about you and your family. I just wanted you to know I think and pray for your family regularly. I've been reading the blog for months and have never responded. I know there are thousands like me. Katherine will improve. You have an army of prayer warriors!
Love,
Karmen

silence can be just as profound....

"In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth."
-Mahatma Gandhi

the next right thing is your Truth.... it will come 2 u just like breathin'....
