Hi, Friends!

Another of life's many ironies:

I had actually made appointments with myself this week to do some writing. Written it on the calendar. Scheduled some alone time.

The first day of my mini-retreat, my beleaguered little laptop died.

DIED. No CPR...couldn't be revived. Warranty expired.

(Why do they make things that can't be fixed???)

Two of the topics I was working on: "broken things" and "flexibility." I guess someone thought I needed some more personal experience.

As I grieve the loss of my old HP friend, please pray for flexibility in learning a whole new system on a Mac.

It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

And, in general, machines hate me.

(It is so mutual.)

But, Patience is a virtue.

Thanks for hanging with me!

Love, Kim

Once you go Mac, you never go back!

There are a couple of user differences (I always think it is absurd trying to figure out how to write a document on a Mac!) but for the most part they are soooooo much better.

Item 1: You turn it on and fifteen seconds later you're doing whatever you turned your computer on for. No waiting for Windows Pro/Home/Vista whatever to load. No huffing and puffing up to speed. Push the button and away you go. Plus, once they're on everything works faster than on a PC.

Item 2: The laptops run on battery power for much longer.

Item 3: Macs are no longer bulletproof in computer virus world but they are harder to write programming for and with a much smaller market share they aren't nearly as appealing to the weirdos who crash other people's computers for fun.

Item 4: On the rare instance something has gone wrong with my Mac I have almost always been able to fix it myself.

Macs rule! Enjoy.

Oh Kim, don't let yourself get discouraged when your new Mac is smarter than you are!! i have a running conversation with Powell about how stupid the Mac makes me feel, and then he shows me some little simple trick that I've been trying to figure out for hours, and I feel even worse. For those of us oldsters who make the transition from PC to Mac at this late date, the learning curve can be a little steep. But hang in there, and don't expect it all to be wonderful right at first, and have a good tutor at hand (somebody who doesn't mind stupid questions)--now, after about 4 months, I'm no longer ready to throw the d***n Mac out the window. And I'm pretty proud of a little iMovie project I made the other day--it's all good!

Macs are made for people who don't like machines. Once you get used to it, you'll probably love it. I'm one of the most non-techy people ever, and I wouldn't trade my Mac for anything. And, best of all, I've never had one break on me.

Hope you can catch a break from personal lessons and just enjoy your writing for awhile. :-)

Hi Kim! Made the transition to Mac myself, this year! One of the best decisions I've made, business wise, in a LONG TIME! If I, at 51, can do it, so can you! I don't think you'll regret it once you've had TIME to play around. . . . . "TIME". . . now there's the operative word . . . but well worth the effort!

Thank you for praying for our 13 year old son who was badly burned last month. The Lord has proved Himself mighty to save and Josh is doing extremely well considering all he's been through!

Prov. 4:18 - "The path of the just is as a shining light that shines more and more unto the perfect day!" Thanks for being a blazing example to us all. Keep shining! His light becomes you!

With His Love, Mary Jane Waters (Wilmington, NC)

Hi Mrs Arnold,
I was just browsing through your blog and it is so wonderful! The Ashfords still think about you guys and pray for you often! I think you would really enjoy this link - http://6yearmed.blogspot.com/. This girl and her blog have kept me going through med school and residency. She is, like you, a beautiful writer and her most recent post prompted me to think of Katherine. All our best!

Yayy for Mac's. Best Mac tip I've ever heard . . . the control key plus the "click bar" under the touch pad = a pc right click.
