...to those who have recently joined us.
A little background information:
On April 21, 2008, my daughter, Katherine Arnold Wolf, experienced a major AVM rupture in her cerebellum. A model, actor, and mother of a six-month old baby boy, she collapsed in her apartment at Pepperdine University, where her husband Jay was completing his last year of Law School. Against all rational odds, a brave surgeon at UCLA, Dr. Nestor Gonzalez, elected to perform an extremely difficult 16-hour-long surgery. She was not expected to live through the operation; the prognosis was that if she did, she would most likely remain in a coma or in a persistent vegetative state. Over half of her cerebellum was removed and 7 cranial nerves were damaged in the surgery to remove the AVM and hematoma in her brain. Her brain stem was completely engulfed in blood, the cerebellum had herniated into the spinal column , and there were multiple aneurysms.
But...
She squeezed the surgeon’s hand the first day.
Miracles still happen.
This blog is my journal of her ongoing recovery and the many lessons I am learning from it.
If you would like more information, you are welcome to read the “Journal” entries on our Caringbridge site:

We are very grateful for all of you who have chosen to accompany us on this strange journey and for those who continue to intercede for Katherine’s complete restoration.
Bless you, one and all.

I can't believe you're making us shy, blog adoring fans come out of the wood works to name our favorites and vehemently insist you continue writing! (it truly is the best we have to read) Since you have threatened to delete posts, I too am trying desperately to save them all...:)) Some that have BLOWN ME AWAY in effortless writing, candid emotion, profound truth and spectacular imagery are: Dreams Deferred, Graduation, Hunger, A Day in the Life, Jesus and Bridgett, Jesus Wept. (I simply cannot choose...don't make me!) :)
Your gift...without a doubt inspired by the Holy Spirit is not only the ability to write beautifully but to infuse humor with spectacular suffering, scripture, poetry and all life experience into something that is inspiring, uplifting and raw. I'm addicted and I have learned sooo much about HOW to suffer through your experience, your sharing. I appreciate the blogs where you're angry...the ones where you look back on the good life as you "used" to have it...the blogs where you're tired. We ALL long to have someone go before us and encourage us to keep on, to not give up. I have not posted because I rarely have anything to add and feel silly repeating myself...the little mantra "Kim...that was 1. fabulous 2. hilarious 3. disturbing 4. wonderful, etc. so I usually just pass it on through email to everyone I know so they can be blessed. Can you imagine how many lives have been changed because you've had the courage to write? I am so thankful for you and for Katherine. I have known her since birth and have always admired her gifts, her passion and her charisma. I am praying for you and for her and for the entire family. It is thrilling to read back through the posts and see how far she has already come. Talitha Koum! God is soooo abundantly good.
prayin'.... :)
I am a fairly new reader of your blog but LOVED the posts titled HOME and DREAMS, DEFERRED. God totally speaks through you in only the way that HE can! Saying prayers.
